Applying Eyeliner Question?

Q: I just started wearing makeup a few weeks ago and everyone told me to put my eyeliner on the bottom inner rim (aka the waterline) and for everyone, their liner stays there all day, but mie fades away after an hour. i tried a kohl pencil and even waterproof but my liner still fades from my bottom inner rim. Any tips and suggestions on how to make it last all day? With love, Calista

A: i had the exact same problem because i love the look of eyeliner on the waterline, but it never lasted. there are two ways to remedy this that have worked for me: use a gel eyeliner, like stila's smudgepot or smashbox's jetset. they're very water-resistant and last forever, and they smudge really well. the difference between the two is that the jetset is fully waterproof, but dries much quicker so you have to do any blending really fast. if you don't plan on getting a new product, what gets my regular liners to last a little longer is if i take a q-tip and run it along the waterline so that it's fully dry before i put on any liner. since that area is normally moist, putting liner directly on it while it's wet doesn't let it stick very well. if you use a waterproof eyeliner, like make up for ever's aqua eyes (as mentioned above), it should last even longer. after that, i pat on a tiny bit of a matching-colored eyeshadow to "set" the liner. don't use liquid eyeliner.. it takes too long to dry and stings!
