A: In 8th grade, you are too pretty to cover yourself with too much make up. The best thing to do is to play up your features, minimize any flaws, and look as natural as you can. You'll soon find that boys may look at girls who are really made up, but if you ask them, they prefer a more natural look. For the uneven skin tone, you may have to experiment to see what looks best. Before you rush out to buy lots of product, go to a make up counter like Bobbi Brown or MAC and ask them to do your make up. Pay close attention to what they do and ask questions. You want to make sure you can duplicate it at home. More than likely, you won't need expensive products to do that. Your age is on your side! Still, you want to moisturize your skin well. Tanning causes sun damage (even at your age) and dryness. You can use a self tanner for the face, like Neutragena's. One that gradually increases with use so you can control what is the best match. Because you already have a naturally dewy look to your skin, which older women don't, you can use a mineral foundation powder without it looking like a mask. Just make sure you tap the excess off and apply it in very small amounts because it's easier to add more than it is to remove too much. Swirl the brush, tap, then swirl the brush lightly over the parts you want to cover. Blend really really well and go lightly over your neck so there's no line. You can also try a tinted moisturizer which gives less coverage but doesn't look so matte. Some creams have really good coverage too. One I like is Advanced Radiance by Olay. It covers great but also looks like it is dewy, like your natural skin. Use bronzer to mimic a tanned blush because a pink or mauve blush will be too much contrast. Use a bronzer sparingly though. We all know what overly-bronzed people look like! Then really play up your eyes so the focus is off your skin. I don't mean lots of eyeliner or eyeshadow. Put thin lines of eyeliner on and then go over them with the same color eyeshadow so they look a tad smudged. Don't put any eyeshadow on or use a neutral, like pale beige. Curl your lashes and apply mascara, then put a tiny bit of white eye pencil or shadow in the inner corners of your eyes which will really make your eyes pop and look really alert. Use only a pale tinted or plain lip gloss. Never make both your eyes and your lips the focus. That only works for retro looks. Wear some really cute bold earrings or necklace but not both. Either will also draw eyes away from your skin. Lastly, smile and show lots of confidence! It's the best cosmetic out there! Your skin problems will fade and everyone has some in their life. Act as if you are gorgeous and you will find yourself believing it too!
