Q: ok i am 15 and i am going to get some makeup when i turn 16. do you think that i should buy some drugsotre makeup first and start with that or go for a expensive more makeup like mac?
A: I work for MAC and while I love it and I do think it is an amazing brand, there are definitely ways you can get the amazing items from MAC that are really fun and worth it but just get drugstore versions of the others. For a foundation, I recommend something simple and easy to use, like a mineral foundation. If you don't need foundation, don't wear it! And don't put anything on your face that doesn't match your skintone 100%. With a mineral foundation you just dust it over your face, it has SPF in it to protect your skin, and it will even out your skintone. You can dot it on blemishes too as a concealer. For a drugstore mineral foundation I recommend L'Oreal's Bare Naturale or Jane mineral foundation, but the smaller tub not the one that comes with the big sponge, it is horrible! As for MAC, go and get a pretty shimmery shadow that will look good on your eyes everyday. Something you can just swipe on your eyelids and head out the door with. I recommend something like Retrospeck, or All That Glitters. You can apply Retrospeck wet by wetting your brush and then applying the eyeshadow and it makes it stay better and look more shimmery! For brushes, I recommend just getting a brush from Target, Sonia Kushuk, they are less expensive and you can get a basic eyeshadow brush for very cheap. Then you can get one bold bright color to add oomph when you want it. Just choose any pretty color you like, whether it be a pretty brown like Mulch, or a bright green like Swimming, anything works! Apply your neutral to your lid and then the brighter color in the outter corner or in the crease. Watch youtube gurus like californiacosmetics and pursebuzz to figure out how to do that. For mascara, go with something from the drugstore like Lash Blast from Covergirl. Get waterproof! For eyeliner, just get a $1.00 Wet 'n Wild pencil. If you are blonde get dark brown and if you are brunette get black. Wet 'n Wild actually has great quality eyeshadow, it is right on par with high end brand Stila. You can get a palette with a bunch of neutral colors in it for $5, its well worth it! They have smaller palettes with three colors for $2. To make your eyeshadow last all day and be more vibrant and not crease and rub away, apply concealer to your eyelid. Or if you want to invest in a eyeshadow primer that you put on our lids before shadow get L'Oreal Decrease. L'oreal HIP is also a great line of highly pigmented drugstore makeup. Their jelly balms in the pots are exact dupes of MAC tendertones and are great for the lips! As for blush, don't worry about it right now, you don't need it! ;)
