Q: I was wondering if the tap shoes for kids sold at Payless are any good quality? I was told to go to a dance supply store and stay away from Payless for this. Any recommendation? Comments from dance teachers / tap dancers is greatly appreciated!
A: I have two little tap dancers. I have found that if the children are taking a beginning level class that expensive shoes are not necessary. They simply do not get the amount wear as shoes used at intermediate and senior levels. I would say the most important thing to consider is FIT. If a tap shoe is too large it can impair the dancing by wobbling, falling off or causing blisters. So, knowing how fast my little ones' feet grow, I would go with the more affordable option as you may be surprised with needing a second pair before year end. You can also check out consignment stores for name brand. These are often near new. Our school has a bulletin board for parents interested in selling or buying used shoes which is also a great resource. Just remember, they must fit! I hope this helps!
