Q: I have a gold St Christopher medallion which is not worth a lot, but means a great deal to me. Recently, it broke whilst I was trying to put it on one morning. The small eyelet on one end of the chain snapped, meaning that the clasp just slips through it. I take it I'll have to take it to a professional to get it fixed- should I approach a chain, like H Samuels, or an independent shop, ir doesn't this matter? Can you give me a rough idea of cost? Also, the chain is very thin and delicate. There is an eye on top of the medallion through which the chain passes- would it be possible to get a bigger eye fitted, to accomodate a thicker chain? Thanks.
A: If it means a lot to you, find a good goldsmith. H Samuel may do it for you but I think you'd get a better result from either an independent or a better quality jeweller. Perhaps ask friends or relatives if they know anyone?
