A: It was back in 1989 at one of those clothing home parties ..Weekender was the name of the line I think...the fashion "expert" advised mixing a padded shoulder sweat shirt with a padded shoulder hoodie and a padded shoulder sleeveless fleece over-vest. We were all expected to try on this travesty to get an idea of "how good everyone looks in shoulder pads" I already have square shoulders and I looked like a linebacker. They all laughed at me...but I wasn't sad, i looked far too funny to not laugh at! I laughed at myself. This line had shoulder pads in everything and they sold pads to add to un-padded clothes. They even manage to add padded shoulders to tank tops somehow. I think I remember pulling shoulder pads out of a furry housecoat it wouldn't surprise me in the least if someone sold a matching night set with pads in both pieces. I do like the new shoulder lines, they are far neater and closer to the natural shoulder; it's more about raising the sleeve head and cap rather than extending the shoulders like a linebacker.
